EVEREST: THE OTHER SIDE

EVEREST: THE OTHER SIDE

2026 (USA) 110 minutes

Directed by: Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi

Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson became extreme sports stars in 2018 when they were the first to ski down Lhotse, the Everest-adjacent, fourth tallest mountain in the world. For their next challenge, the couple intended to scale Everest’s rarely attempted north face and then ski down from the summit. After a tragedy, Morrison presses on alone. His tenacity and spiritual intensity in overcoming grief, not to mention the awesome physical obstacles posed by Everest makes him one of those rare true-life adventurers whose exploits go farther than fiction. Everest: The Other Side captures Morrison’s extraordinary and risky 2025 ascent in images made all the more compelling because co-director Jimmy Chin is climbing next to Morrison, facing many of the same perils. Chin’s cinematography—along with that of Clair Popkin and Christopher Murray—and Morrison’s epic determination add up to a thrilling documentary.
